How to Spend a Perfect Weekend in Malaga: 2-Day Itinerary

6 August 2023

As the largest city in the Costa del Sol, Málaga is a dynamic city that thrives under perennial sunshine and fine weather

Day 1

City Centre Sites

The first day of your Málaga itinerary sees you getting the lay of the land and stopping by some of the city’s main sites. Make sure to pack some good walking shoes along with your beach gear, as you’ll certainly need them after today!

Free Walking Tour

Free walking tours are always our first stop when exploring a new city as they help you both to get your bearings and take you by the biggest tourist attractions in the city. You will also get an overview of the city’s history and some local recommendations, at times, as well.

Alcazaba de Málaga

Alcazaba is a Moorish fortress and palace overlooking the city and port. It is quite large and sprawled out over hills, allow at least an hour to explore it,

Picasso Museum

Picasso was born in Málaga and lived in the city for a large portion of his childhood. Because of the city’s pride, there is a small museum that is home to several works by Picasso throughout his long career. You won't see his major works here but never the less a beautiful place to visit.

Day 2

Mercado de Atarazanas

Though the Mercado de Atarazanas, Málaga’s central market, certainly sees its fair share of tourists, you’re going to see that the majority of the people doing the shopping here are locals. You will find everything from freshly caught seafood, butcher’s counters, cured meat and cheese counters, olive sellers, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Malagueta Beach

La Malagueta is the closest beach to the city centre.

This dark sandy Blue Flag beach stretches for 1.2 km between the Port of Málaga and La Caleta Beach. Its oceanfront promenade is lined with towering palm trees that are occupied by vocal parrots. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy grilled fish.

Take a sunset catamaran cruise

Taking a one-hour boat cruise is one of the most popular things to do in Málaga. What could be a better end to your weekend break than watching the sunset over the sea whilst sipping a chilled glass of Cava.

Last week The Travel Ladies took off on an adventure to Orlando. We were tasked with having a great time, but without visitng a single theme park. I was a bit concrned as usually when I am in Orlando, that is all I do - Grab my most comfy shoes and trek the parks from rope-drop until I cant walk any longer. Does anyone else do this?
