Mauritius
Cast away to a beautiful, palm-fringed island where tranquil beaches give way to dramatic, volcanic landscapes. Romantic and remote Mauritius is said to be a paradise on earth, and is home to some of the most lavish hotels in the world. Beyond the luxurious whiter-than-white beaches and crystal-clear waters, its interior is covered with lush National Parks, wildlife havens and a food scene to whet anyone’s appetite.
Championship golf courses, destination spas and some of the world’s leading hotels give Mauritius a distinctly sophisticated feel that would suit even the most discerning traveller. But don’t be fooled, there’s so much more to Mauritius than its grown-up appearance. Whilst you’d be quite right to while away days by the pool with a local rum punch and soaking up the sun, you’d be missing out if you didn’t take a trip to Le Morne Brabant or the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth to witness some of nature’s magnificent phenomenon. From the hustle and bustle of the island’s capital Port Louis to the tranquil Black River Gorges National Park, Mauritius is a destination with something for everyone. Equally, escaping to the ocean is a great way to experience some of the Indian Ocean’s world-class diving and snorkeling opportunities.
Beautiful resorts are scattered all over Mauritius’ coastline, but the most popular include Belle Mare in the East; perfect for a romantic ‘something special’, combining stunning scenery, pristine beaches and exquisite hotels making it a popular destination all year round. In the West Flic-En-Flac is located on the ‘sunset coast’ once a charming fishing village, this resort has romantic restaurants, luxury hotels and 3km of impeccable shore-lines. Down in the South of Mauritius is the incredibly popular La Morne, water-sports enthusiasts flock there to enjoy the surf, and great conditions for kitesurfing, diving and much more, all set against the dramatic backdrop of La Morne Brabant.
The food in Mauritius is not to be missed, from traditional French-Creole melting pots to freshly caught seafood, exotic fruit to tasty grilled-on-the-beach barbecues, food on Mauritius reflects all elements of the island’s character – diversity, richness and colour.
